The Extra Mile Is a Runaway Success!

We are thrilled to announce that Sabie’s first trail run on 19 May – organised by MORE Community Trust (MCT) and Sabi Sand Pfunanani Trust to raise money for our local communities – was a runaway success!

In excess of R100 000 was collected thanks to the efforts of the 500 entrants, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators. All came together in a heartwarming show of support – the likes of which we have never before seen! Michelle Scott, General Manager of MCT says, “We are incredibly appreciative of our partners, sponsors, and every individual that put their blood, sweat, and tears into this event to make it such a success.”

A total of 146 runners participated in two races – a 21km and 10km trail, starting from Hundzukani Primary School’s field at 08h00 and 08h05 respectively – with professionals running alongside families and community members. The day’s cold and rain couldn’t put a damper on their spirits, and they all encouraged each other along the way. Our big congratulations to the following winners:

Coffee and pancakes, served from 07h00, set our runners up for a good start, while nine water points en route ensured they were well hydrated. The trails were also clearly marked, with marshals along the routes keeping runners on track and safe in this wilderness area.

Our tireless supporters were well catered for, too by food and beverage stalls at Hundzukani Primary School. Families with children also had access to the Kids Zone at Southern Cross School, which kept the little ones warm and full, and hosted exciting activities to entertain them.

“Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the day with us. We had great participation from the community and surrounding lodges,” enthuses Michelle, “With this inaugural event, we found new challenges and new ways of overcoming them, and the energy of the day was amazing and unforgettable!”

The date of next year’s even has been set for Saturday, 18 May. We invite anyone and everyone to join us in going the extra mile to improve the lives of people in our communities – and hope to see our 2018 The Extra Mile winners come back to defend their titles…

We joined More and the Frida Hartley Shelter for a fun-filled festive picnic at Delta Park last week. Our tiny guests were treated to a special visit from Santa, who brought gifts for all of the kids as well as the ladies from the shelter.
