Jabez Pre-school, located in the village of Justicia B in the Mpumalanga Province, opened in 2018, and was built and developed by More Community Trust (MCT) for the local children of the Village who did not have access to an Early Childhood Development centre. The school has been completely dependent on MCT for both funding and management. Operations had to temporarily pause in 2020 due to the C-19 pandemic, and its consequential impact on available funding. It thankfully opened again on 01 March 2021. The school has 46 registered children, with 3 teachers and a security guard.
Our focus is on developing the school’s autonomy, preparing for an eventual hand over of the school management to the community (as per our vision for community programs to be led and run by members). The school will be registered as a Non Profit Organisation (NPO) with the Department of Social Development (DSD), so that they may receive ECD program support and resources.
We need to install a vegetable tunnel and garden at Jabez Pre-school to supplement the children’s meals with fresh and nutritious produce (for many children, this is their only daily meal), and to create an additional source of income for the school. We have partnered with Food and Trees for Africa who will assist with seedlings, training and ongoing support.
