Huntington Village – on the fringe of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, and part of the greater Bushbuckridge area – represents the largest concentration of poverty in South Africa. 70% of the community of 6000 people is not economically active; its most vulnerable being women and children.
The Extra Mile Trail Run was conceptualised to raise funds in support of this community. In its second year, and now sponsored by Investec Rhino Lifeline, runners and walkers (both professional and amateur) are invited to participate. Spend an enjoyable day with good food and in good company in one of South Africa’s most beautiful places.
The first ever The Extra Mile took place on 19 May 2018 and was a runaway success. In excess of R100 000 was raised, all thanks to the 500 entrants, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators who came together in a heart-warming show of support.
The event consists of two trail runs – a 21km course and a 10km course – through an especially scenic part of South Africa, and anyone – from professional runners to families and community members – is welcome to take part. On the sidelines, food and drinks stalls ensure everyone is well catered for, a Kids’ Zone keeps young ones entertained, and competitions and prizes add to the excitement of the day.
We are already looking forward to 21 September 2019 when we again do our bit for the communities… We can’t wait to see you there!
